Overview

Cold, distant and calculating, Maral often blends into the background, resigning herself to silence and observation rather than active participation. Maral absolutely refuses social connections, and the few relationships she does form will end as soon as their benefit to her dries up. She never shows remorse over this, or any other matter, and furthermore never shows any emotion at all. The only sign that anything stirs within manifests in the form of frequent sighs of indignation and annoyance.Maral spends much of her time either locked away in her chambers, or taking feverish notes on her surroundings. Her drive and purpose seems to stem from an intense research with an unknown motive which she conducts with a brutal efficiency. The topic of her research is very tight-lipped, and she will offer very little clarifying information beyond a vague association with lightning and biology. Despite her zeal for research, Maral is otherwise incredibly lazy and unmotivated. She is prone to egregious procrastination, and enjoys excessive lounging when research hits a lull.

  • Kagon - Maral hails from the Kagon tribe in the Nhaama desert. Owing to her tribe's tradition, Maral will never step foot in sunlight out of reverence for Nhaama and disdain for Azim. She believes this with her whole heart, and takes her worship to unparalleled levels of zealotry. She holds a high reverence for other Xaela and creatures of the night, and is well learned in Steppe culture and its tribes.

  • Lightning - As Maral's research is centric around lightning, anyone mentioning the topic, or anyone with a levin-based anomaly in their aether will find themself with her undivided attention. Complete with a probing question or two (or fifty).

  • Aether & Dynamis - For those who can see aether, Maral harbors massive quantities of levin aether, so much so that it borders on being dangerous and unstable. More curiously yet, Maral is completely and utterly devoid of any trace of dynamis.

  • Test Subjects - Harboring an uncanny desire to measure any and everything biological, Maral has been known to take on subjects for experimentation. Though her methods are notorious for being terrifying and unorthodox, if you have an oddity worth investigating, she may very well be able to get to the bottom of it.

Clinical Elixir Trials

As an alchemist, Maral often produces a wide array of non-standard potions and elixirs to further aid her own scientific endeavors. Owing to her frequent ventures into the unknown, these substances can have unintended effects, and so, must be thoroughly tested. Maral is universally willing to barter in exchange for participants, the value of which may be unique to the combination of the person and substance. This makes for an excellent (and ill-advised) way to make gil, or earn Maral's favor. Each elixir will be given a category from the table shown below. When drank, a d20 will be rolled to determine which type of side-effect may be experienced. The duration and severity of the effect are entirely up to the player, and if you would like to force an effect roll, I am willing to overlook the initial d20. If there is a specific effect you would like to trigger, I am amenable to that as well, so long as it would be feasibly achievable with the corresponding potion. Nobody gets off scot-free without a roll, though!
